Hello! We are brand new at all of this and would welcome some advice. These are the two fifth-wheels that we have found that fit our need with kids (i.e triple or quad bunks) What is your experience with these brands? We want to make a good purchase and feel that we got a quality product. Thanks for any advice!

Welcome to irv2. Glad you found us.

Having owned a Keystone 5-r before, that manufacturer is pretty decent & a good value. I would recommend any of their middle to upper middle lines - of which Mountaineer is one. I've never heard of a Chaparral although I have seen older ones for sale through the internet. Are those still being manufactured?

You might do a search of the forum for comments on either of these to models. There may have been discussions in the past that would help you decide. Good luck with your purchase.

Glad to have you here. Just be sure and take a flashlight with you to look inside the backs of cabinets and all the little dark nooks and crannies. Some of the manufacturers really cut corners on tieing wires and piping down or in bundles. Some holes are punched and not finished rather than drilled and furnished with a grommet.

Above all take you time and make sure it fits how you want to use the RV. See if there is adequate storage and drawers to store kitchen supplies, linens, underwear clothes and such. Sit in for an hour or two and pretend you live there. Try to get ready for bed, fix a meal, get up and get ready to go. Make sure you can fit in the potty area...don't laugh, we have seen a few that you had to open the door to stand up and pull up your pants.

Some of them are designed for people about 5'3" tall and maybe 100#. Also, check out the hanging closet space. Some have ONE full length closet and that is it. Great if your wife want to take along her formal ball gowns.

Also, make sure anything the dealer promises is written into the contract...not in writting...they have a way of forgetting.

We have had a Montana 5th wheel for 2 years. Be sure to join www.montanaowners.com. You will find great advice and friendship. The bunkhouse model for the Mountaineer is very popular. We have been very pleased with Keystone's customer service. Just be sure the dealer feels the same way.
