Mounting 5th wheel

Im new to 5th wheeling, I am putting in the hitch that was on the truck before and my question is, I have a hard rubber mat in the bed and was hoping I could just drill through the holes and leave the mat in place or do I need to cut around the rails so they are flush metal to metal? The mat is 1/4 inch thick. Thanks

Welcome,

Yes you'd need to cut away the mat for the rails. The rails require direct contact to the under-bed frame mounted HW / brackets. Be sure the correct spacers / shims are all in place that sandwich the bracket, bed sheet metal, to the rails. Use the recommended torque on those grade 8 bolts. Re-torque them after a short test run.

Happy motoring.

Agree... You don't want any movement there... Cut the rubber out as nessesarry...
Monkey PS,, treat any bolt holes etc with a good rust inhibitor (sp?)
