New rig has aluminum rims...

This is my first time with alum rims.

So part of my new rig Discovery process I check to ensure I have a lug wrench aboard that fits. My lugs are 22mm. But the lug wrench doesn't engage the nut enough as the socket is too big to fit down in the hole. Thin-walled socket on the way from Amazon.

I wanted to mention this to hopefully save one of you some grief if you have the same problem and weren't aware.

Also with that thin wall socket, I "assume" you are using a torque wrench and the correct torque value for aluminum wheels as it is usually different then the value for steel wheels

Thanks for the tip. I was surprised to see the torque spec of 120 ft lbs

If you don’t already have one, I’d pick up a breaker bar as well. I would add that it’s a good idea to re-torque the wheels after 75 - 100 miles. This is especially true with aluminum wheels.
With aluminum wheels I also put a very THIN layer of anti-seize on the wheel hub and corresponding backside of the wheel. Be careful not to get any on the studs. The purpose is to eliminate any galvanic corrosion between the dissimilar metals. I learned about this with my Explorer. The first time I went to rotate the tires they were rusted on. I had to beat on the tires with a sledgehammer to get them off.
