New Tires

It's time for new tires and the Michelin XTA's are just too darn expensive at $500 each. For half that price I can get into the Cooper Roadmaster with identical specs. Anyone have experience with the Roadmaster?

I can't help you with Cooper Roadmaster but I can tell you that I had Sailun Tires put on my coach a couple of years ago and they have been holding up well. They cost me $1575.11 total installed with balancing. Size 225 R70 19.5.

I have Roadmaster RM120 on the drive axle Been on for four years and I think that they are great. They are 2.55 70 22.5. As you know they are made by Cooper.

hdrich, I can't find a Sailun Tire in my size for trailer use. They all seem to be in the 22.5 range. But then, I didn't mention what size I had, did I?

The Coopers I am looking at in 215/75R17.5 are the RM170's and I'm thinking they'll work out just fine. Besides, I can't pass up the price so I'll have it aligned this summer and get the new rubber on it unless I hear some bad reviews.

I just upgraded from a LR E to a G in a Hercules that was highly recommended locally it really looks beefy. All steel radial doesn't bag like most radials especially the crap that comes on new 5ver and rides very smooth.
Hope they last long time.
I have been very fortunate over last 10 years, never had one blow but have had one about to if not for a Good Samaritan who flagged me down to tell me it was about to blow.
Nothing like having piece of mind with good tires.

I have the Roadmasters that you are talking about on my 5er, for the last 4 years. No problems and are wearing very good. I do a 5 tire rotation yearly and keep the air pressure between 105 and 110psi, but I am under 14,000# on the axles. I wouldn't be a bit afraid of them, in fact I highly recommend them. I probably have 20K miles on them and they will last another 50, to 80K if they didn't time out first. I believe that they will last well over the 5 year mark, and probably will approach 10 years, but I don't know that for sure yet.

I've had a pair of Hercules H-902 215/75R17.5 on our rig for the past three years with no problem. When the two Sumitomos on the other axle are ready for replacement I won't hesitate to have two more Hercules mounted. My local tire dealer, who is also an RVer, recommended the Hercules.

We just bought 5 new Hankook trailer tires-14 ply. We were in a bind and basically stranded since we arrived at an RV park to find two of the came-on-the camper Goodyear Marathons aka "The Chinese Bombs" (as we found out after the fact) were about to blow out. We had wanted the Maxxis tires everyone talks about, but nobody in the city had them (appears they are a bit hard to locate which could cause a problem someday if you were in a bind) and an order-in would take 3-4 days which we didn't have. Our friend there had just bought Hankooks for his big heavier-than-ours trailer (and we are heavy!) and highly recommended them. They were not cheap! Get what you pay for.

Hankook are Korean made. They make race tires also 18 wheeler tires. They are very good tires. I don't think you will be dissapointed.

Cooper Roadmasters 160/170 are good RV tires. I had a set that lasted very well until I curbed hard and knocked out the alignment. Replaced with Sailuns. These are 17.5 tires. I believe either of these tires will prove to be more cost-effective then Michelins--which I also had early on and had to junk them due to tread separations.
Currently, the 17.5 Sailuns have about 8-9k miles and doing fine: the 19.5s on my 450 are wearing well also.
If you check ebay or SimpleTire.com for sources/pricing, you will be surprised at the low cost/free shipping available on both Coopers and Sailuns. For $15-20/tire, you can get them mounted/balanced at a lot of tire shops.
If you want replacement help if a problem arises, Goodyear has the best rep for helping on damage caused from one or their tires blowing out.

Sailun is a great tire in the 16" size.. I'd expect the same in larger sizes.

I have the RM170's in 19.5. I have about 1500 miles on them since last Oct and all is good so far.
