First off, let me say I've looked at several RV and camper forums and can tell a quality forum when I see one. Congrats to the Admins/Mods for keeping things organized and what looks to be a well maintained site. I'm a Mod on an ATV forum and know exactly how hard you guys work.

I have a Jayco 5th wheel that I bought from my father about a year ago. The weather stripping around the slide out is starting to fall apart. The spring clips made into it has started to rust in several places and it's not staying clipped to the camper. I'm fairly mechanical and think I can replace this myself even if it means I have to take the slide out apart from the camper. Now on to my questions

1. Does the slide out have to be removed to replace this seal?
2. Where would be the best place to buy this seal?
3. Any tips or tricks I need to know before I tackle this?

Thanks,

Darryl/IBBruin

Darryl,

I had the same thing happen to my 5th wheel. I can assure you, when one goes, they will all go. Full replacement is the only cure for your problem. In my case it was a living room slide, a kitchen slide, and a bedroom slide. All three seals were replaced without the need to remove the slide. However, in the case of my kitchen slide, it did require the expertise of someone less than half my size. The kitchen slide is 16' feet long, and because of the flange arrangement on the inside it took a thin, limber person to crawl up into that space to affix the new seal.

As for the place to get a seal; my guess is that your seal is like mine in that it is a custom design for your rig. I got mine direct from the factory. Maybe Jayco uses a generic type, but I would ask them directly.

I appreciate the quick response. I'll contact Jayco when/if I can find the factory number. I only have a single slide out on this camper so I guess I got lucky with only one to replace. I was wondering if the interior trim could be removed and adjust the stops so the slide out could be moved an inch or two past the exterior wall. That would sure make the seal replacement easier.
