Newby Question

I am looking at a Ford F250 Crew Cab Short Bed. It has what I presume to be a goose neck fitting - its like a ball sticking up from the middle of the bed. As I want to tow a fifth wheel can I attach the hitch to the fitting or will I have to change it.

There are hitches available that attach to the gooseneck ball in the box and provide a standard fifth wheel attachment. That would be the prefered set up . The adaptors that bolt to the 5th hitch and then go straight down to the ball are not recommended by many 5th makers and insome cases void the frame warrenty.

I have a keystone Fuzion Touring Edition II. I bought it from CW. I have an extended gooseneck adaptor that bolts to the trailer, over the king pin. I use it and love it. It was less expensive and carried the same payload.

FWIW - I do not know how short a short box bed is for Ford but on my GMC Crew Cab teh bed is to short to back a fifth wheel safely without slider. Most places wanted $300.00 and up for the slide adapter for my hitch - I found one (new) on the internet for $159.99 and free shipping. I tried it and now I do not have to worry about hitting my back glass in a slow - sharp turn.

Look into B&W Companion, not sure if they make a hitch for short bed but they make one heck of a hitch none the less and if you do a search you will see nothing but satisfied customers!

Thanks for the info folks. I will investigate further. It is on a dealers lot but no dealer at the time.

That B&W I mentioned would be able to be removed, leaving the bed open. Don't know it's a turnover ball hitch in the bed but check that out also.
