Newmar London Aire 5th wheel - Anyone have/had one of these?
Hello,
My husband & I are looking at a 2000 LAFW and was wondering if anyone here has/had owns/owned one. Pros & Cons? We travel full time and previously owned a 2004 Kountry Star. We were regulars at Newmar basically having all of our repairs done there. They were great! I have been to Newmars brochure archive, but the brochure doesn't really mention much. It is dually tandem axles, full fiberglass body. Went to the KA brochure to get the insulation ratings. I understand this was their top of the line FW, and seeing as the dually option isn't available anymore we are considering this one. Any comments and or information would greatly be appreciated.

Newmar.com and look for Kountry Klub.
Also that is one heavy 5er, you will need a mid size truck to pull it well.

I have a friend with a dually twin axle Newmar. It is truely a nice unit. Heavy and well built. He tows it with an older F-550.
You will not need a F-550 but will need a newer dually truck.

I think I'd opt for the 550! Much better to have too much truck than too little.

Rather than listen to various opinions, see if you can find the gross weight rating of the prospective coach. For 5'ers, figure 25% of that weight as hitch (pin) weight, which is carried directly on the rear axle. Then take the VIN of the prospective truck to the dealer and find out the real specs for that particular truck. Then you can figure out whether or not that particular truck can handle that particular coach.
Remember, pulling the coach usually isn't the problem. Stopping it is. Remember that Wally Byam once towed an Airstream with a bicycle. Yes, it was a publicity stunt, it was for a short distance, and it was on level ground. I suspect that he wouldn't have tried it with even a slight down grade.

Remember, the trailer is now 15 years old. Roofs, appliances, furnishings are all wearing out and will need replacing. You might be better off buying a much newer Modile Suites or something similar.

Thank you for the good advice! We have a 1996 International 4700 DT466E that is set up to pull a 5th Wheel.

David, you are so right. Pulling isn't the problem it's stopping!! As I have stated to others, we have a '96 International 4700 DT466E that is set up for pulling a 5th wheel. It's been a great truck that we purchased in June '15 from the original owner with 20,178 miles on it. Of course we have added to it, we have had to replace the fluids/filters, tires and belt, but it seems to run better the more we drive it. It's really been fun. I think we have the stopping nailed down. We don't drive fast 60-63 mph on cruise and it is just steady as she goes. Others whizz past us, but we seem to arrive about the same time as they do (for us, less stressed).
