Red face Norcold 1200 lr cooling unit fire

My norcold 1200 lr refridgerator caught fire in the rear unit that was under recall. I spent over $1,800 in parts to get the unit to work prior to the fire. Norcold has refused to pay because i had a new cooling unit installed on the recommendation of a certified norcold technician who told me it was better than norcolds. It was not the cause of the fire.

Any simliar situations or advice would be deeply appreciated.

Tough call, but changing a mfg's unit will almost always void any warranty...
be it houses, cars, anything....

Would you warrant your work if after it left you someone changed it ?

I LOVE tuning my diesel trucks to get the 'left on the table' hp and torque - have on every one I've had thus far...
but this new one is still stock as I want to ensure it is functioning correctly with a warranty intact so I can pull our 'vacation home'
good luck with it... but afraid you best speak to your rv insurance agent....

Tom--Sorry to hear. I can't offer any advise to solve your current situation.

I know that this information is too late for you, but once you replace your unit (and for others whose refrigerators have not caught fire yet), there's a good discusion on the Excel Forum about the SS-30 Halon automatic fire extinguisher at http://www.irv2.com/forums/f116/and-...rs-125228.html. The company's web site is at Fire Fight Products supplemental fire systems.

So what WAS the cause of this mysterious fire?

The new cooling unit recommended by a "certified" Nocold Technician? The Norcold Recall device? The heaters? The LPG unit?

Your post is confusing and misleading.

Just wondering......

The $1800 would have been better spend on a residential Samsung RF197 Fridge to replace the POS Norcold.

What was the cause of the fire?

If you replaced the cooling unit with a non-Norcold part how could you ever expect them to cover it under warranty.

If the replacement was an Amish cooling unit yours is the first one I've ever heard/seen that caused a fire.

Need more info as to the cause and where the fire was located.

I guess we may never find out!

I find that many people will post their problem but never return once it has been resolved to describe the solution.

Maybe too much to expect.
