I have used a Teflon plat for over 25 years of towing a 5ver. Have had no problems just sprayed silicon on the plate and pin before each hook. I did have to remove it once because of a break down towing company had an older style hitch and it would not except the pin shoulder to plate clearance. My plate screws to the pin box.

How much did you pay for Teflon? Virtually all are made of Nylon if the package label is correct. There are two sizes, a 12" and a 10", never have encountered two thicknesses though. When the Nylon plate becomes worn and will not stay on the king-pin, use a ball-peen hammer and softly strike each (warmed up) "finger" once about 3/4" from the end. Hit it too hard and the Nylon will break. It will expand the Nylon enough to make it fit the pin tightly again. I used the same plate for 8 years before it was removed at an RV shop and disappeared, that one had the fingers tightened 3 times.
