I'm in search of the "perfect" 5ver. I have found that what I want is likely to be in the slightly longer category - like about 34 feet. But I don't know if it could be backed into my driveway.

That's my predicament.

Here is my offer: Dinner for a couple who are daring enough to come by my house and back their 5ver into my driveway and behind my house.

I've done this a lot with a 28' TT without problem. I'm just not sure how well it will work with a 34' 5ver (or 32' for that matter). So I figured, what the heck, I'll ask if anyone wants to give it a try.

Any takers? I live in Marietta, GA near by the intersection of Piedmont Dr. and Sandy Plains Rd. The dinner offer is for you and your spouse to dine with me and my spouse at a local (but not toooo expensive) restaurant.

I see no Vol. yet. Any on RV.NET? Maybe just go ask them to demo the unit and run by your home. You looking at Camping Time? Not far away. I spoke to someone there buying a new 5er, came all the way from Fla. to buy there.

I only towed a 5th. RV once and didn't back it but I have towed semi trailers (up to 42'). If I'm correct a 34' 5th. will have about the same overall length as as 28' TT. I think the 5th. will back in where your TT does with no more problem.

If I try and can't get it in do I buy dinner?

Joking aside, I wish I knew last month when I came by there heading to Florida from North Carolina. I'd have been happy to try. I'm going back up I-95 to I-26 so can't get it on the return trip.

How about it folks, maybe someone could swing by and help him out.

If you'll pay for the fuel, I might be willing to come over from Houston, TX and try to get my 36' 5th wheel in there!

I am used to backing a 32ft TT into a very tight drive way around a bunch of trees..I am sure you could do it with a 5th wheel. Don't they turn a lot better than a TT?

Will just have to wait and see. Didn't they have TT in TX?

Good input folks. Thanks.

Let's see....

If someone tries and it doesn't fit, I'll still buy dinner. (Cute response Hitchhiker - got a good smile from this one)

As much as I want to see this done, I'll pass on the offer from TX (for now)

I posted this in rv.net too... Need to go check it next.

Can't wait to hear who does the backing: Anita or Spook.

Well, since Anita's down visiting us this weekend and may or may not get on the forum, I'll let the cat out of the bag. Anita does the backing. She also can go out solo, tow the TT, set it up, tear it down, etc.

It's enough to make a father proud!!

Traveldawg,

Are you still looking for a volunteer? I live in Alpharetta and have a 34' 5er that I tow with a rig similar to yours.

I have been needing to get over to the scales just north of your location. I could kill two birds with one stone.

traveldawg,

Sorry I am too far away to come and try. But I did have a 28' TT before our 33' 5th. I can get the 5th into some tight spots. Backing the 5th is different vs. the TT because of the different pivot points of the hitch.
Backing a TT there is less truck movement, with the 5th the front end of the truck moves much more. Not that one is better than another, they are just different and take a little getting use to.

I am sure if you got a 28' TT back there you will get a 32'-34' 5th with not much problem.
