Add a sidecar to that motorcycle and you will be charged for a extra axle.
Been there done that.

Reason was sidecar axle doesn't match up with the rear bike axle.
I was pulling a pop up and paid for 4 axle's. Total weight under 1,500 lb's.

I'm checking into an EZpass from Mass. Less cost than one from Ohio.

As a parting note, why will Kentucky never fall down into Tennessee?

Why do I have the feeling that you are going to say it's because Ohio sucks. . . .

Hey Mel,

I don't know about every state. Both Ohio and PA use # of axles as only one criteria.

Ohio also uses the silhouette (height). Fare Calculator

PA also uses weight. https://www.paturnpike.com/toll/tollmileage.aspx

Lots of great info on these forums. But do have a question about the E-ZPass or i-pass. You can use these while towing a 5ver? Never had any pass for tolls as I live in WI and avoid toll roads if and when I leave the state.

Yes, you can use an EZPASS while towing your 5th wheel. We have an Illinois IPASS (EZPASS system) and we only have one transponder. We can move it from vehicle to vehicle and you do not need a separate transponder for your 5th wheel.

That might explain why when towing my tt with my truck. I get charged different rates (Ohio pike) . When I pick up my ticket, sometimes it shots out up top as if I'm a semi-driver, and other times it's at eye level. I wonder if it's thinking I'm a high profile vehicle at my 2nd axle.

Doing the IL. pike a few weeks back and there are not even any people at the booths...not a one. Had a lady in front of me at the toll booth automated machine who couldn't get it to work for her. She claims she never received a ticket.. Waited 15 minutes, couldn't back my trailer back up the toll booth lane because of too much oncoming traffic. Was also after dark. She wondered from booth to booth looking for a live person to help her. Not a single toll collector in the whole complex. I had to have my wife use two flashlights warning oncoming drivers I was backing up, to get into another lane....Very dangerous.

The $$$ for the first 20 miles of the east section of the PA. pike I-76) has me avoiding future trips that way.

Denver is horrid - When I triple towed I got hit for 5 vehicles because of the number of axles. Not much better now, as I'll get hit as 4 because of the tag and toad.

I haven't tried - but I'm curious what happens if both the MH and Toad have EZ Pass? I'll probably get hit for the MH + 1 axle + 2 axles on toad, AND the toad will register and charge itself again

I avoid the Ohio toll road especially when towing. I'm not in a hurry and there are other route one can take to save a few dollars. This past summer I also bypassed Chicago and went south. I couldn't see spending money for stop and go traffic.

Abnmarine

There are very few toll roads that can't be avoided if you have the time.

Problem solved.

Last week I paid $50 +/- for tolls in OH and PA.

Today for the return trip (same distance) I paid $1.25. 28 miles of PA turnpike was free westbound. $1.25 for OH turnpike to the first exit.
