Onan marquis 5500 fuse

I was wondering if anyone could help me identify a fuse problem with my generator. Battery was low in 5th wheel. I tried to start the generator with the remote switch in the camper. Not enough cranking amps. Lights flickered, onan tried to turn over then clicked. Just like a fuse blew. I changed the battery, no power to the remote starter. So I went to generator and tried starter on generator. Nothing. Obviously there is a fuse between the battery and the generator, but WHERE. No breaker thrown in camper and no fuse blown. Please help.

Although an oldie, my generator batt. cable has a resetable 150 amp breaker, a few inchs away from the battery.

They have small trip levers on them that need to be reset. Worth a look.

Do you have the Onan manual? Should be some self-diagnosis on problems from the number of 'clicks' and pattern of 'clicks' that will point to the problem. On my unit, the starting lever also has a red light that blinks in unison with the 'clicks.' You need to try to start the gen with the start lever on the gen itself, not the remote, and listen carefully for the 'clicks'--as mentioned above, there are reset buttons/levers on the unit that may be tripped. Since you have said you used the gen starter lever, then you should have seen/reset the 30amp breakers.
If it is absolutely dead, than power to the unit isn't present. I am not aware of any fuse in the line except for the breaker in the main CB box.

You could use jumper cables to try and start the genset if you had to.

I believe you need 965-0531 (Service manual)

Should find it here;

Index of /~n0nas/manuals/onan

Aren't the breakers on the gen set 20 and 30 amp, 120 volt output breakers.

If it doesn't crank, it's a 12 volt issue. The breaker for that, would be near the source of the power, the battery.

You're correct. I was just thinking. First mistake :(

It definitely is a 12 volt issue. No power to the remote switch no power to the main switch on the gen set itself. 30 am breakers are for 120v ac. I need the fuse that is on the 12 volt battery side.

No flickering light because no 12 volt power to remote switch or switch on generator itself. Both sets of switches have no power. 12 volt power issue to generator

Do you have a meter and know how to use it? Pretty much a necessity.

Have you downloaded the manual? It will show you where the Red cable goes. Probably to the starter relay. The ground just goes to the side of the case most likely.

Are you other 12V items working?

Very interested in the outcome of this---trying to figure out the 12volt path. Soon as I get home, going to take a look at this from the 12volt angle, since mine is the same gen.

"Do you have a meter and know how to use it? Pretty much a necessity." I agree with this...
