When I ordered my 5th wheel, my dealer wanted to sell me a Pullrite slider hitch and after doing the math I could not see why I needed one. I have a 6 1/2' bed and I have measured the cab clearance with the 5th wheel angled as far as I would ever want go and the measurement is 6+". I am already at maximum weight, so I went with the 35 lb. Andersen. I really like it so far.

Let's compare apples to apples. A crew cab short box has a shorter wheelbase than a crew cab long box. I have a3500 with the long and short box and the longer truck hs a better ride. You can't compare a regular cab to a crew

I had 3 different fifth on a shortbed up until 2014. Several variables. We found the length of the pin box made more difference than anything. By the time we got to a 2012 fifth wheel with the Lippert radius cut front and the Tri-Gilde pin box, we took the slider hitch out of the truck permanently.

We also went from a short bed to a dually long bed in 2014 because of weight. The dually long bed rode better by far, when towing, otherwise it was terrible. I hated it so bad I had to make a choice and go back to a short bed or just dump the idea and go to what we have now.

Our 6'4" bed on the Silverado has no clearance issues . As said before our Cougar has a nose cap curved which gives a lot of turning room.
