Pin Box Question

We purchased a 2016 Ram 3500 long bed, pulling a 2017 Cardinal 3250 with a Lipert Moreryde pin box. Unfortunately while I was backing up at close to 90 degrees the pin box hit the inside top of the bed cap causing at this point $1,000.00 to repair.
The Ram's bed is approximately 64" in width at the point of impact and the pin box is approximately 66" from front to rear or 33" from the pin to the rear of the box. The electric box which is attached to the rear of the Moreryde brings it to 35" from the pin.
Is the Moreryde pin box too long for the pick up bed as it is 2" longer then the width of the inside bed of the truck?
The front of the trailer is already "up" so I can not raise the 5th wheel hitch. The trailer & hitch was set up at the dealer.

Can the pinbox be raised? Can the hitch be raised?

Lippert does NOT make the MORryde pin box they are made by MORryde. I would go back on the dealer!!!

Truck Hitch

Hi I have a 2015 CTD 4X4 short box..I had a 2009 CTD 4X4 short box...I found the new Dodge was 4"s higher at the rear so I had to find a way to lift the trailer or lower the truck so I looked at all the choices I had and there was not a easy way to go.So I lifted the trailer 4"s to do this I went to a Man I trusted in a spring shop to Him this was a easy fix...some blocks were cut and welded and installed about 4 hours later job completed. Works great and I am happy with the repair the trailer rides strait and level again and clears the Box just fine I also have the Mor-ride Pin Box

Raising the pin/trailer may not be an option. How tall is your trailer now? My Cedar Creek 36ckts is at 13'6" with my hitch and standard Lippert pin box set at their lowest spots. Your Cardinal/Ram might already be too tall.

I was concerned about the very thing that you experienced too. I am using the Andersen Aluminum hitch in my short bed Ram.

Your truck (being a long bed) could utilize the Andersen with thier pin adapter oriented with the kingpin in front of the ball socket. This will bring the rear of your pin box 4" farther away from the side rails when cornering than it is now.

To accomplish this with my short bed I needed to use an offset GN adapter. Without it I am too close to the cab when turning. Your long bed should not need this, however.

The MORryde is a nice upgrade! Hate to see you have to give it up if you don't need to...

You could always cut more of a notch from the lower rear on the MR. Mines got a 45* angle cut on it. Cutting another 1" wouldn't change anything as far as structural goes.

A call to MorRyde would be a good idea. I've called them before and they were very easy to talk to.

Have a 7" clearance at the pin. The width of the box is aprrox. 64", the approx. length from the center of the pin to rear of box is 33".

Pull the shroud that goes around the underside of the pin box . Take your electric box and put in on the inside of the pin box oppsite of where it is now and then start backing up and jack knife with someone watching . My Buddy has a Ram with a Moryde pin and about seven inches clearance does not have a problem.
I have a short bed with 8 inch clearance and nailed my elec box twice. The keep building the back and sides higher.

I have raised the hitch up, the trailer is already up in the front. Yes I am going to contact dealer, I want to have some background/knowledge on the subject before talk to the Service Manager. Thanks

In my case I can not raise anything as the trailer is supposed to be 13'4'' tall. The trailer was backed into a garage with a 14' tall door onto a lift so a trailer hitch could be installed, estimated 4" clearance as the wheels were on the lift, so I am as high as I want to go. I wanted the Anderson Ultimate but was told Anderson did not make a hitch for the factory puck system & would need an adapter plate which would raise the hitch height too high. What do I know?

I am looking at doing that too, I will be calling MorRyde before I make any alterations.

I bent the electrical box too, thought about doing it, again trying to avoid alterations before getting valuable feedback and talking to MR and the dealer.

On the MR there are two round bars on each side of the box with nuts on both ends, are they adjustable? If the bars are adjustable, it looks like the pin could be moved forward at least two inches which might help or solve the problem?
