You should be able to plug in the trailer, with another new converter, with no battery and use a volt meter on the cables to find the positive one.

Your meter will read 12 volts if the red lead is on the positive cable. If they are crossed you will see a minus sign before the 12 volt numbers.

Since you can get to the converter, you can also disconnect the 12 volt wires from it and then hook up the battery.

Now try the electric jacks. If they work backwards of the switch markings, the battery cables are wrong.

Using the ohm meter, place one probe on cable and the other probe on bare metal.....might have to scrape a paint by battery ....in my 5er, the red wire is the hot one, and the white one is ground

Can't you just follow the negative cable it should be attached to the frame near the battery.

Ohm meter? Don't confuse the situation.

If he couldn't get to the other end of cable, an ohm meter makes short work of which cable is which....

If the battery is disconnected and you plug in the trailer to power does any of the DC stuff work?

When I was camping yesterday I noticed that at dark I tuned the interior lights on to find that they were at half brightness. As the night went on the lights dimmed until there was about nothing left. The a/c, microwave and tv's worked fine. The fridge, water heater and light were all affected although I was hooked into 50 amp shore power. That was my first hint that a blew the converter.

And this was with the new converter installed? If so that tells me that the DC system from the battery out is good.

I can only imagine that it has to be something on the converter output. Either it's hooked up wrong or there's a short somewhere.

Did you happen to power up the converter after you replaced it but before you put the battery in to see if it worked?

I'm all out of ideas!
