Propane Generator

I am in S Cal . Ran the Genny for 2 hrs for maint with load. Tank that had ice on outside . Had same thing happen on road . Tank froze and the gas stayed a liquid. Is this a regulator problem?

Did the generator stop ?

Frost on the tank in humid weather is normal.

It did when l ran it on nite. Reg showd empty but after defrosting it was one third full. Today it was full and still frosting up at 75 deg outside air temp

Do you have 100% propane or is it some or all butane? If all or even partly butane it can "freeze" (quits turning to gas) at much higher temps than true propane.

Propane boils ( turns to gas )around ( minus ) -44 degrees.

Butane boils around 30 degrees.

If you bought your gas in a warm climate, there may be more butane then propane in the mix and that will stop flowing in freezing weather.

The frost on the regulator and lines is just the expanding gas extracting heat from the pipes the same way refrigerators work.

Propane has been used as a refridgerant.
