Purchase 5th wheel out of state....pictures only?

We were on a trip to Sturgis and met folks at our CG with toy hauler that told us we would save a lot of money if we looked at a unit in Florida. Taking that advice we have found that in certain areas of country we could save a LOT of $$ on a used 5'ver if we purchased out of state. Some of these units sell quickly, consignments etc...
Just a little nervous about spending money on a unit that I have not personally inspected. Are there private folks that would act on your behalf to inspect unit if you pay them to do so? Any heads up on what to prepare for if we go that route is appreciated! I know it's buyer beware.

I can't answer about private parties working on your behalf, but I would be leary of buying something site unseen. If you find something you like you can fly down there to inspect. My problem with long distance purchase is that once you figure in the cost to go look at it and bring it back you may not be saving that much. For the amount of money spent on an RV I want to be able to feel and smell it.

We purchased a 5th wheel based on pictures, but paid to have the 5th wheel taken to another dealership (of our choice) to have it inspected. In the end it cost us $500.00 which was a lot cheaper than flying out to see it and when completed we had a detailed inspection and knew that we had no major issues.

I had a dealer yesterday told me he would ship it to me. I would never fork over $$ without either inspecting myself or hireing an independent rv mechanic to do it for me. I know people buy and sell on ebay. Like home inspectors. Perhaps we need RV inspectors.

I would rather lay my own eyes on the RV unless I had a good and known person/dealer inspect the RV first.

Very good! If it were 500 miles or less I can drive it easy given a reliable report if it were further away I would want to hire an inspection or fly out. Some of the savings could easily pay for this added expense.

One thing that I didn't mention is that we had researched this 5th wheel and knew that this was one that had a good track record. So make sure that you do your homework.
Good luck
Michael
