I'm not writing about my 5th wheel, but I'm sure many of you have similar maintainence problems with re-caulking aluminum roofs............ and this is one the largest of the forums on IRV2.

Here is my problem. I've got a 1999 Lance camper and the aluminum roof seams needs to be re-caulked. I called Lance and they state that the old Parbond needs to be removed before I apply a new application of Parbond. It is near impossible to get this old Parbond stuff off, so I'm looking for a product that I can apply over the alligatored Parbond. What ever I use, it will need to be a self leveling caulk in a tube. Someone had recommended Kool Seal Roof Patching Cement in a tube, but it is not available in our part of the country (Santa Cruz, CA)

I do not want Eternabond Tape
I do not want Parbond
I do not want any silicone caulk

Does anyone have any recommendations to re-caulk my aluminum roof. Any suggestions would be appreciated for a long term solution. Thanks.

And..... if I have remove the old Parbond, what is the best way to do it?

ON my Holiday Rambler the recommended product is Flow Seal, a self leveling sealant that you should be able to get at any RV store. I don't know about the Parbond, but all I ever do is remove any loose stuff with a putty knife, cut the bubbles with a razor knife, and reapply the new stuff.

I have always used Dicor, it is a self leveling lap sealant, and have had great luck with it.

I have never used or had to take off Parbond, it looks like a job I wouldn't want to do. In either case, acetone works well with Dicor, but you will have to see how it works with that stuff. Get a good putty knife and go to town. I would defineatly remove all the old, that is really the only way you will get a good seal with the new.
