Reese 5th Wheel 16 K Hitch Broke

I have a Reese 16K Slider hitch and over the weekend noticed that I had very hard time pushing the release handle back in. Upon further investigation I found that the bushing was broken and the handle was out of alignment.
I did an internet search and did not find anyone else who had this problem but many suggested to contact Reese and tell them. It should be noted that the hitch is very well constructed except for this piece which is made of a hard plastic.
I contacted Reese and they really did not seem concerned. They mentioned that the bushing will break if you lift the hitch by it handle. I told them that the hitch is one year old and never removed from the truck yet alone lifted by the handle.
I was a little put off by their lack of concern as the hitch and tires are 2 things I think need the outmost care and attention (got new tires this weekend).

Has anyone else have this problem with their hitch?

REESE is NOT the quality product it once was. Their products are now made in "other" countries.

I would no way trust REESE hitches I have seen this carnage too many times.
