Just a reminder that there are out of sight and out of mind moving parts under the hitch plate. During the wet winter months when not in use it is even more important to protect them with a liberal shot of oil or grease. Each hinge point is held in place with a thin clip in an end slot of the moving part. I neglected mine a couple years ago and a rusty clip failed, allowing the locking mechanism to come apart. The handle pulled right out. No harm done but I was stuck until I could get new clips and repair it. If one has been neglected, it would be worth lifting the plate from the pivot for better access. This would allow removal of any rust and a good lube. Otherwise it can be routinely serviced while in place. FWIW. Bill

Every Spring I take the head assembly and turn it over and check/oil/lube the locking assembly prior to using. Often just looking at the underside will tell you a lot about how your RV is being towed.
