Reese GooseBox - 16k or 20k

If my fifth wheel has a GVWR of ~11k, obviously the 16k GB would be fine....but is there any reason not to just get the 20k? Bigger is always better right?

Sure but there is more cost and that is up to you.

And the 20K will add just more unnecessary weight to the Pin. You gain nothing with the 20K.

Is there a difference in the width of each ? Your existing mount may be the deciding factor.

I have the 16K on my 27.5 Arctic fox. I think my gross weight is about 12.5K.
It is the smoothest outfit I have ever pulled with. I'm not an engineer, but the shocks and the airbags of the 20K would be larger and thus stiffer than the 16K unit. Not sure you gain anything by doing this except a stiffer ride.

The only difference is the 20k has a second plate (big gusset) added to stiffen, bag is the same just adjust pressure to load.

Is there a possibility that you move to a larger 5er down the road? Perhaps the 20k could move to a "next" trailer??

CJUTA, if you are still wondering, maybe I can help. (in a non technical manner) when I purchased my rig in Ohio it was supposed to have the Reese 20K installed, it was still the standard king pin & they didn't have the 20k & installed a 16k. I pulled it from there to Western KY, it was a dream boat. (my rig new-empty-was right about 12,5k I think.

Now, I've since upgraded to the 20k as planned & am equally as happy. I upgraded because when I loaded her up to travel I was tapping right at the 16k.

I would offer you that I got a good deal when switching from the 16k to the 20k & would gladly pass that on to you. (they were both direct bolt on applications with no difference in mounting)

Up to you sir.
