How about buying 2 lbs, wrapping one in newspaper and leaving the other pound sitting on top of it till you see if you need more or less cooling.

As a food vendor, place the dry ice in the top to freeze what is below. Place the dry ice in the bottom to cool what is above it. As said before, wrap it as to not damage the plastic in the fridge or freezer. But I would head for a small$100 fridge, it WILL be cheaper.

Curious what the refer symptoms are? Might be a simple fix if it is not leaking.

There may be other options, such as car coolers that run on 12V. There are also small refrigerators that run on 12V. Maybe a 12V wine cooler if all you need to do is cool and not freeze anything.

Search on the words "12 volt refrigerator" without the quotes.
