Residential Fridge Question
I have a 2015 Fifth Wheel. It came with an inverter & a residential fridge. My question is, will my truck be able to hold the batteries up driving down the road with the fridge on. I have a ram with the heavy duty alternator. I been searching, but have not found the info yet. Thanks for any help.

Likely yes. Even if not charging the batteries should power the refrigerator through a typical travel day. As it should through a typical night.

After a full day towing ours with a Samsung residential fridge running off a 1K watt psw inverter, I still have a full charge on our 2 6 volt batteries. I don't think our different brands of trucks would matter.

Welcome to the forum.
Likewise We've found on a travel day that the TV does keep the batteries topped off while driving (float charge). We're in the habit of staying plugged in to shore power until the slides and leveling jacks are all in. We also plug in quickly at the next CG. Dry camping we've found we need to run the generator a couple hours morning and evening. 2ea. 6V batteries are good for about 4-6 hrs. depending on temp alone.

Thanks for the replies. I have 2 batteries on my camper now. I eventually plan on getting a generator. Glad to know a day of driving with the fridge on won't drain the batteries.

We have the same setup on our 2016 Chrome Fuzion and the frig stays as cold as when we left the shore hookup while driving with the inverter on. The writeup says the inverter is good for 15 to 17 hours of frig time off the dual battery setup. Haven't tested that but I'm thinking it could be close to that.

More than likely. Most OEM's have a #10 wire to the 7 pin plug. My Samsung averages about 10 Ah off the converter. You should easily be able to replace that much from the truck's alternator. 2 Group 27 marine batteries should give you around 95-110 usable Ah (50%).

If you have an inverter it should run the fridge off of your batteries.

I would think in a rig as new as yours, the RF option would come with an inverter and extra battery(s).

In the space behind out residential fridge, accessible through the outside panel, there are two outlets, one powered by shore power and one powered by the inverter. I guess we could switch off the inverter and plug into the shore powered outlet for extended stays hooked up, but we just leave the inverter on full time and the battery charger maintains a float charge on the batteries while the inverter runs off of the batteries. You might want to check your setup.

Many inverters have a "pass thru" function for ac when you are hooked to shore power. The refrigerator in that case is being powered from the pedestal not the batteries.

I have a 2015 Cedar Creek with the household fridge and an inverter. When I hook up to shore power the inverter automatically lets the 120v ac pass thru. When I disconnect from shore power I have to turn on the inverter for it to power the fridge. If an RV comes with a household fridge, I would bet that it has an inverter already installed.
