Roof-mounted bike rack

With arguments going back and forth that bumper-mounted bike racks and pin-box-mounted bike racks void warranty, does anybody use a bike rack mounted on the roof of their tow vehicle? If not, is it just because they are too doggone expensive? or are there other reasons. Thanks !

If you bike is light a roof rack is fine but can be awkward to load.

Saw a family at Grizzly RV Park last summer with 4 bikes on the roof of their TV. He said the only issue was loading and unloading them was a bit of a chore. They had been doing it for years with their 5th wheel. wouldn't work for me because I would need a ladder and I am not nearly as spry as I once was.

Been using a front mount hitch for the bikes since 2009 when the TV was new. Just ordered a new 2016 TV, & a front mount hitch will be added prior to our first trip. Easy to load, & no other issues, bikes are low enough not to block view. We travel with two bikes.

So I just went ahead now and ordered a front-mount receiver hitch - should have it next week - will be trying it out next month, our first trip in our new Rockwood !

I used to carry our bikes on top of the truck.

#-1 Found out it was to hard at my age to wrestle them up
and down at my age .

#-2 The rack created air gaps in the door seals creating noise.

So I went to this.

I can now stay on the ground putting bikes on and off plus bring 6500 Honda along.

Take a look at a dual receiver. Then you can get a good quality receiver mount bike rack.

How does the little cargo trailer track? Also, do you happen to know it's loaded gross and tongue weight? I ask because that is exactly what I'm looking for.

I use both front and roof. The majority of the time we use them for Kayaks however. My bumper came with a receiver which has been one of the handiest things I've ever found. The two person kayak weighs just shy of 100 lbs, it's a bit of a bear to get on the roof. Well worth it though. I've changed how things sit up there now however.

Tracks great. Have a wireless camera on back of 5er to keep an eye on it.

Unable to give you weights. I am the second owner and unable to read weight tag.

Originally had smaller rims and bias ply tires and was ugly red.

I upgraded to larger aluminum rims and radial tires.

Most weight I've hauled is 1/4 face chord of firewood, 6500 W Honda Gen, Coleman Screen House, Cooler full of food, and the bikes.

Haha ya looks much better now. I definitely would have changed the tires as well. Do you have a class III hitch on the 5th wheel?

Class 3 2"X2" receiver with 2" ball.

Can even put rear stabilizer on it. Stops the left to right wiggles'
