I have a 2005 Keystone High Country Cougar 5w, and I have two scare lights, one high on the right front side, and one on the back high center. I can not find the switch for these, and neither can the dealer it was purchased at. He thinks it's one of the switches inside the door, but the scare lights don't come on, when any of the switches are on. I have changed both bulbs, and that does not help. I have checked the fuse panel, and they are all 30 amp fuses, and there is only one for all the lights. All of the lights inside work, so I know that fuse is okay. Any suggestions ?

Have you figured out what all the switches inside the door do? If any do nothing than remove that switch and check the wiring behind it. May be a loose or disconnected wire or bad switch.

The lights are designed to illuminate a large area around the trailer quickly when there is a concern about the outside area at night--light is usually the first defense against intrusion, thus the term "scare" to scare away intruders. My MS has one at each corner of the trailer, the front 2 are also wired to the backup lights on my truck so that they come on when backing up. Also just neat to be able to get more light on the door side of the trailer. Gotta be frustrating not to be able to use them....
Ours are operated by two unlabeled switches inside the control panel area.

First I would verify that there are bulbs in the lights, while you are up there also look for switches on the lights - I know that in my TT the wall switches for some of my interior lights are in series with switches on the lights themselves so both have to be ON. Then I would call the factory and ask them for a wiring diagram or if they know which switches go to those lights. Once you know which switch is which then you can dig out the voltmeter and start troubleshooting.

They are the big round clear or white lights located high up on 1 or more sides of an RV. Usually 1 is on the utility side, handy for when you pull into a campground after dark & need to hook up e/w/s. They look like this:
They're often called "scare" lights, because turning them on will scare away intruders (both human & critter kinds).
Don, we had a 2004 Cougar 5-r (not high country though) & our switch was in an odd, but not unusual place. It was just at the top of the stairs leading to the bedroom, next to the bedroom overhead light switch. It was marked "UTILITY". I probably would've located it closer to the entry door switches, but in hindsight, maybe it was put there for ease of use if one heard unusual sounds in the middle of the night. I wouldn't have to go far to turn it on.

Thank you. We bought this 5th wheelr froma friend that bought it used, and he used it about 3 or 4 times just for weekend. So it has almost no wear. WE were looking at a new one, when he made us a good deal. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE THE WEAK LINK. THEIR QC GUY WAS GONE THE DAY THEY WIRED THIS ONE.
