Securing bicycles

Hi we recently purchased a Cougar 5th Wheel and have a pull out rack on the back but for the life of me can't seem to secure our bicycles properly. Does anyone have any ideas? There is only one bar perpendicular to the rack but no other tethers to hold bicycles to it. Any help would be appreciated.

It would be better if you could post a pic so we could see what it is you are talking about.

I have a Cougar 318SAB also and there is no way to safely mount the bikes without damage to the bikes. I am toying with the idea of using our old THULE bike rack from my 80's van when we carried the bikes on the roof.

I just need to figure out how to mount the different parts of the bike rack to the bike carrier on the trailer not a big concern of ours as of yet so I have not done it yet. Whatever I mount will need to be portable so the parts can be removed when the rack is closed and reinstalled when I open the rack to carry bikes.

I wish the trailer instead had a receiver hitch, I then could mount the trucks bike rack instead the cheap rack that is on the camper now it would be easier to mount and take off.

You can buy a bolt on receiver hitch at Northern Tool or online. Then you can use one of the high quality receiver style bike racks that can carry as many as 4 bicycles. Most 4" bumpers on RV's are lightweight, but perfectly capable of handling 100 lbs. of bikes.

My daughter's a bicycle racer, and we have a number of bicycle racks. She often just carries her bicycles in the back seat of her car. You too can just put the bikes inside your camper when in route to other places.

I use a 2-bike bumper rack on my Cougar HC 299RKS. I use bungee cords to hold them in place, but also a security cable to the ladder. I once used straps with plastic buckles which broke and cost me 2 Walmart bikes. Since replacing them with good bikes, I use redundancy with multiple cords and the security cable.

Buy some of these Hollywood Racks Truck Bed Bike Carrier - Fork Mount - Bolt On Hollywood Racks Truck Bed Bike Racks HRT970 and bolt them to the rack. I use them on my DIY rack on my 5'er.
