Selling an RV on consignment

Has anyone out there ever sold their RV on consignment through Camping World? If you have what was the experience like, i.e. got your asking price, what was the commission they charged, how did the sales people treat you. I am considering selling my 5th wheel and wondered if selling through consignment would be wise.

when I was shopping for rigs a few years ago... they were less than helpful.
Most of the stuff they had on consignment was junk.
Then after I purchased a rig... I went to buy a tube of caulk for a small area. The cashier starts giving me the hard sell about buying some "maintenance warranty plan"... I politely refused and asked if he had an RV himself. His answer made me stop the whole transaction for a measly $9... and leave. They definitely dont like an "informed consumer".

Thank you for the info, I suppose I will sell it on my own or try to use a different RV dealer.

Where are you located? I think PPL Motorhomes may be the largest selling dealer of consignment units in the nation? Locations in Houston, New Braunfels and Cleburne, TX.

Not an RV but a boat. I tried to sell it myself. ..no luck. Not even one call. Boat dealer on consignment sold it in 3 days. I got more money even after paying 10% commission. Boat was priced 33% higher than I was asking originally...go figure.

And most of their stuff (last time I looked) was junk at least in motorhomes.. I think they take 15%. Personally, before consigning it, list it on craigslist and the RVTrader. Clean it up, take photos. If it doesn't sell then consider consignment.

I didn't use CW but we did sell our Class C via consignment. The appeal for buyers is they can trade their unit in and secure financing which makes it easier on these larger purchases.

Thank you for your input, I will use craigslist and rv trader and the classified on here first before resorting to CW. Will make sure it is looking good and go for it.

We looked at several camping worlds inventory when we were looking for our current coach. The rigs they were offering were not prepped for sale, dead bugs everywhere, half the time they couldn't find the keys, and often the batteries were dead. Just based on what we personally experienced, I wouldn't let Camping World sell a coach for me on a bet.

Thank you for your input. I believe I will only use CW as a last resort. I have not heard good things about their parts and service so I guess I shouldn't expect much out their consignment sales as well.

Same thing at PPL. I imagine people turn them on and don't turn them off as they sit on the lot.

Had my '02 Sunnybrook at a small consignment lot back in 2007--tho it finally did sell from there, someone came thru and opened the stove burner valves and let out all the propane. I was very lucky it did not catch on fire.
Lots of angles on a consignment sale to consider, especially if you don't have a lot of patience with tire-kickers, + most of us tend to think more highly of our units than do others and you need to be thick-skinned sometimes.
