we are considering a custom built fifth wheel. does anyone have one or have any experience with a custom built unit? any problems getting work done on the unit? do dealers turn away from your problems? this unit is built by a company that has been in business for several years.

Most RV service centers will mostly be concerned about the Manufacturer of the appliance or component that has gone bad... IE dometic Fridge or Norcold furnace... When working warranty issues, the service center will cont them directly. If however you have trailer, or bulkhead issues, those would/should go back to the builder, unless you get "IN WRITING" a stipulation of warranty on said unit.
another words, if your having problems in .. lets say Bozeman Montana, All the service center that repairs your rig has to do is contact the Manufacturer for authorization and guarantee of payment.

Here's another consideration; quality of repair vs ease of finding repairs. I would frankly, be more concerned with the fact that most dealers DO NOT provide QUALITY repair work on the very units they sell. JMHO, but I have found the repair facilities that exist solely to provide repair on units rather than selling them do a much better job as their technicians have to perform to stay in business.

This is perhaps a question that the custom manufacturer could answer for you by perhaps already having a list of business's that have provided acceptable service to their customers in the past while travelling hither and yon.
