The breakaway cable got pulled while the trailer was still plugged into the truck. I thought my brake controller was shorted because of an SH on the display (Prodigy). This only displays while the trailer is plugged in. When not plugged in the display is normal. Tekonsha tells me the indications point to a short in the trailer wiring. I checked at the plug and the blue (brake) wire is shorted to ground.

Any ideas what to check?

You need to reset the EMERGENCY brake away switch. It may even need replacing. You did say it got pulled????
That is the circuit that is setting your BLUE wire to gound, which is what it is suppose to do when pulled.

Inspect each wire from the plug back to each wheel for worn insulation. Most have the brake wiring ran through the axle to the other side of the trailer, this often creates a short when the sharp edge of the drilled hole in the axle cuts/abrades the insulation. Visit the dexter axle website and read the brake troubleshooting section.
P.S. I once pulled the plug on my breakaway switch and the entire switch melted together.

everything was working fine until the pin pulled out. After it pulled out I started getting the short message on the controller. The brakes are not locked, I was able to tow the trailer home (luckily it wasn't far).

I've got a call into the dealer to talk to a tech.

You did not say of you replaced the pin in the break-away switch. That switch literally puts full 12V (from your RV batteries) to the brakes full time. If you were able to tow it anywhere without noticing a big drag, then either your RV brakes are shot, the RV batteries have no juice, or the break-away switch and/or wiring is bad.

If it does work, your batteries are drained by now and will need a full charge.
