short fivers with toy haulers?
My husband and I have been looking at fifth wheels and discussing what we want. We pretty much settled on getting a fifth wheel with a toy hauler and deck (even though we don't have any toys :-) ) My husband likes the extra room (garage) but, as we have been looking at them, we realize that most are pretty long. We want to be able to maneuver in and out of a campsite.
Are there any fifth wheels small enough to fit in a campsite that have toy haulers? We might have to settle for one without a toy hauler I think. We're getting closer to buying one and starting the full time life......LOTS to do! Will be going to the local RV show in January. Retirement is in June.

Toy haulers are a compromise, to make room for a garage they give up some 'fixed' living space and/or get longer. But the really short units might work for you, look for ones that are multi-functional, meaning the 'living' space and the garage are a common space. The furniture folds or stores out of the way for loading toys. Since you don't plan on any toys, you can buy furniture that you like, arrange it as you like and open the ramp door for extra space when you want. There are a number of shorter fifth wheel toyhaulers available, but you probably need to visit the manufacturer's web sites to see many of them. Here is just one example at random. http://www.forestriverinc.com/produc...elID=3594#Main
Another alternative may be a unit with a side patio rather than a rear ramp. This will also keep the length less, but may not work in some camp sites. But then rear ramps have camp site limitations as well.
You may not find the best alternative for you at an RV show, dealers like to bring the biggest, fanciest units to the show and leave the shorter models back at their lot. So, at the show, grab every brochure, take them home and study all the floorplans carefully.
Also, Dune Sport in Arizona will custom build a fifth wheel toyhauler for you, say a 30 footer. But I'm not recommending them, just FYI.

Toy haulers make sense if you have a toy but most other people will say you lose to much living space. I looked at the long ones but did not want to give up the more comfortable living space that a non toy hauler provides.
IMHO - if a house has a comfort lever of 10, a nice 5th wheel has a comfort level of 9. A toy hauler will have a comfort level of 7.

Not sure what comforts you are talking about giving up?
Our Momentum has full size, pillow top queen (King is available should you want that option). One piece, residential shower with sliding doors, porcelain toilets in front bath and rear 1/2 bath, 18 cu. ft. Fridge, stainless steel appliances, fireplace, dual a/c (triple is optional), 4 seat full sofa recliners with heat, cool & massage, on-board generator, full house water filters, auto 6-point leveling, 3 awnings (2 are electric), central vac, and much more. Not sure what options/comforts you think you have to give up with a toy hauler?
The garage is a separate multiple-purpose room so the floor plan is definitely different. You often see less overall open floor space unless you go longer as you shared. However, there is no lack of comforts in today's toy haulers IMHO.

If you are going full time you really need to look at a few standard fifth wheels and compare them to your level of living comfort. Many camp sites are to small to even put the deck out. As others have said it is a compromise, and the shorter the T H is the more of a compromise you have to make. That is why they are so big. No toys ? You will be looking at a big empty space not being used that could have made things a little more comfortable when full timing .

This is so not true.
I have a 12 ft garage which is carpeted, sports a 6ft glass french going to the deck. Lounge chairs go outside or in, if cold. When the bike is out the bar table or work station is up. This same area has its own tv and stereo system.
The single washer dryer combo supports my fridge. By the door to the bathroom there is a, believe it or not, two 4drawer cabinets.
Makes the house living area look sick.

He said he wanted a short toy hauler all l said was that the shorter it is the more compromises they have to make dependent on their comfort level. That is true !
