Probably just the terminology, but the Vilano options are different from the Beacon's, so I haven't been looking at them. I know the slide covers or toppers for the Beacon are an unlisted option (it doesn't appear on their MSRP price list or their website as an option) but it is available for about $2,000 for the 3 toppers on the 39 GBB. It sounds like most folks think it is money well spent so I'm leaning that way.

The Beacon "unpublished options" are almost the same as the Vilano and use the same terminology. Grand design and Prime Time also use the term slide awning and Forest River uses slide topper on some of their models.
Whether they are desirable for someone largely depends on how and where they spend their time. We travel a lot on our trips with many moves and a wide variety of type sites. Keeping the top free of debris is important for us. Some people travel twice a year from their covered storage up north to their FL or AZ winter site and have no trees or such to get on top and they don't want them. They cost some money and may require some maintenance or adjustments but we like them.

Yes Yes Yes!
They are not cheap but keep the dirt and rain water off of the slides, block the sun and so on, but if you spend any time in the snow you better build some kind of support to keep the toppers from collapsing under the extra weight.

DRWICKS, you were right....that is what Vanleigh calls their Slide Covers. Anyway, I ordered the Beacon with this option. I'm getting excited looking forward to spring. Booked campgrounds for May on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia.

It's a love hate situation.
They keep out most water and debris. But not all. I've gotten soaked several times when the slide comes in and we stop the first time. At one end of our FWS the floor gets very wet. Topper is not long enough.
Then when it is windy they are noisy.
Replacement is expensive, pain to do.
Other family's 5er does not have toppers, it does not leak but collects a lot of gunk on top.

When it is raining if you raise the front about 2 degrees the water will run off

The only way to do that is to stick something like a board under them to raise it up? I'll bet over 90% of people don't do that. What happens if you forget to remove it and run the slide in? Maybe I don't understand how you do that.

Think about it, they are very functional. Yes, they are a mild hassle to keep clean and keeping them from sagging.
You either have slide toppers or a broom and ladder to sweep the slide off every time you pull in the slides. With 4 slides that is 4 times up and down the ladder with your broom. It seems you can not easily sweep off the slides from the RV roof. So a ladder is easier.
I had slide toppers and would watch all the twigs and leaves drop off as they came in.

You simply accomplish this using the leveling jacks. My toppers extend beyond the slides roofs and I rarely get water on the slide roofs. If a strong wind drives rain below the toppers a slight off angle with the jacks allows the water to run off the roofs and toppers prior to retracting them.

So, when you get ready to pull the slides in, you drop one side with the leveling jacks and then you do the other side?

No just raise the nose or drop the tail a couple degrees. Will allow any water to drain off aft.
