I have a 2003 forest river cardinal 31bh with one slide out. The slide always seem to be slow but now it will not come in unless someone holds switch and I push it to get it going then it will come in, it seems to have no problem go out besides it seems slow to me compared to friends units. so the question is do you think I have a bad motor? should it be slow is that normal? can I get a more powerful motor? what do I do? I do all of my own repairs. also I unlocked the motor or disengaged it? then I hand cranked the slideout in and out with little effort with a 1/2 socket rachet. so I don't think its out on alignment or binding.
please help?

Just for giggles try running the slide out and cleaning and waxing the sides then use protect all on the seals and see how it works.Sometimes the seals will stick going one direction and not the other.

That unit should have hydraulic slides. so no I don't think you have a bad motor. When is the last time you cleaned and lubricated the slide mechanism?
Clean everything and apply a dry lube and see what happens.

Battery condition makes a difference too.

Our manual says that the engine should be running when moving the slides. Also don't forget to have a window open when moving the slides to reduce the air pressure on the windshield. Joe

I think he has fifth wheel Joe. No motor or windshield to worry about.

Welcome to iRV2. First thing to check is that you are getting full power, at least 12.8 volts a the pump motor. If you have good power at the motor, start looking for anything that could be dragging or out of alignment.

Check the motor amps w/a clamp on amp probe. Then check a friend's unit that you believe is working properly. If they match, the motor is working. If yours is taking high amperage to run, then either the motor has a problem or there is undue friction in your slide mechanisms.
