Hi all!
I'm posting for my sister & brother in law. They have a 296 Cougar 5vr & there slide is operating a little funny. When the slide is ALL the way in & closed, it doesn't want to extend back out & makes the clicking noise that it makes when the slide is in the fully opened or closed position when opening or closing the slide. If he manually moves the slide out just a crank or two the motor will run the slide back open just fine. Batteries have been checked (2 6V golf carts) & are fully charged & load tested just fine.
I was thinking a weak motor? Perhaps a bad clutch mechanism in the gearpack but it seems to still work fine when it is manually started to be runn out.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated....

Clay

Had that problem on out King of the Road.
It was a Barker Mfg. slide.I found the manual
extension handle(it was mounted between the
two axles) was bouncing apparently and had loosened the mounting bolts for the motor and
gear box.It eventually broke the mounting ears off the motor/gearbox..Possibly they could
get under and look at the motor/gearbox mounting bolts. Then again, maybe some silicone on the slide rails is all it needs.
When I talked to a tech at Barker,he said that the slide should not be run against the clutch motor very long on extend and retract. In other words run it in,when it clicks(clutch) let up the button, same on extension.People tend to hold the button (click, click click) too long and put undue wear on the clutch. We don't have that trailer now and I don't have Barker's web page.Theirs may not be a Barker anyway.FWIW

Use the link I posted in the other slide issue topic to download your slide service manual.

I had a Jayco designer series % er that had the very same issue. it turned uot to be a misadjusted amp limiting box. The system in a Jayco uses a box in line with the motor to monitor the amp draw of the slide out motor. After about a year the motor would only come on for a second and try to push the slide out and then stop. If I ran it out manually just beyond fully closed the motor would work fine.

On the Amp limiter box, mounted under the drawers in the kitchen, there was a pot to turn up or down the sensitivity. All I did was run the pot sensitvity down a notch and all worked fine again.

Perhaps your trailer is wired the same way.
