My 2004 Monaco coach owners manual suggested that you be on the "air bags" in drive mode when deploying or retracting the slides. You level after you extend the rooms, and Prior to retracting the slide-out room, start the motorhome. Allow the air
bags to fully inflate to normal travel height.
• Retract the leveling jacks prior to operating the slide-out

I now have a 2015 Entegra, and I believe that I found the same type of instructions.... personally I don't understand what the difference would be. This will be an interesting thread to hear what others do.

After is what I do, no need for the slide not to be level when deployed.

It's best to do what the manual says

This topic goes around somewhat frequently and there seems to be different recommendations from different manufacturers. This somewhat leads me to believe it doesn't matter since most systems are similar. But, considering what these things cost it's probably best to just read the manual and see what they say. This also protects you in any warranty situation.

It seems like comment sense with a fifth wheel to have the trailers level prior to opening slides. You do not have the slides hanging out on the sides and you are not opening them when the trailer is not completely level. Same when hooking up . Close slides with a level trailer. Less stress on the mechinism. Just my opinion. kinda like a car sloped sideways. Which door is harder to open ?
