Sprayed on bed liner?
Hello,
Just bought my TV and need to know if anyone has a 5th wheel hitch that has been put in after a Rhino or Line-x bed liner was blown in. I like these bed liners but need to know if it will interfere with my hitch installation.

My 2002 Dodge 3500 dually had a Line-X sprayed bedliner. My current 2011 Ram 3500 dually has the factory sprayed bedliner. I've used the B&W Companion 5th wheel hitch with both with no problems.

Thanks....I have a Rhino Liner in my current truck and want on in my TV as well. Somebody said I could could not install a 5'er hitch over a sprayed on bed liner. Of course the Line-X company said I could.

I don't see any issues except you should treat newly drilled holes with primer or other rust-proofing to prevent any issues in the future.

The Rhino material is a lot softer than the Line-X, isn't it? I would think a hitch bolted on top of the softer material might flex a bit. I have a Line-X in my GMC and don't really like it much, mainly due to it's abrading qualities on my aged knees. I hate to crawl into the bed when the canopy's on.

I have heard that the liner "could" rub away and cause bolt torque issues. I guess thats easy enough to keep an eye on.

After almost 8 years of rails on a sprayed in liner, it's all still there.
You can not install rails or a hitch on top of a SLIDE IN liner. Does not apply to spray in.
Just let the liner totally cure first. I installed rails a day after they sprayed it in, and it rippled on the corners of the rails just a bit since it was still soft.

Couldn't you mask off with tape the area where the hitch would be mounted, mount the 5th wheel securely (metal to metal) and then mask the hitch base rails, then spray the liner in? Once the 5th hitch goes in, how often are you going to dismount the rails bolted in the bed?

Our prior Chevy 2500HD had a Rhino-liner when we bought it. Put in a 5-r hitch no problem.

You can but totally unnecessary. You don't need metal to metal. Metal to rhino line to metal is fine. But just not a thick, slide in bed liner.

I had my hitch and liner installed at the same time,they would not install hitch first.Statement was liner first hitch second.That was in 1998,still have truck and never have I had a problem with either!

What about installing a hitch with a "bedrug" installed? It's like a carpeting for your truck bed, I have one on my 2500HD. Would it need to be removed for hitch installation?

I had a dealer install my rail kit and all he ask was if I could bring it by and let them pre drill the holes. So far so good.

No, I would leave it.
Only something thick, like a slide in bed liner.
