Even AARP doesn't think you should need a one ton truck. I guess we just pull too big a trailer.

What frustrates me sometimes is when someone asks if they are overweight, and someone else jumps in and says "Your OK, don't pay attention to those weight police".

Shock of all shocks Tom. When we moved the truck insurance from OK to TX, the local independenet agent found the best rate on the 11500# GVWR truck at .....Hartford. They just won't take one through AARP. Go figure.

Now thats really something, and it doesn't make sense at all. Well, after what they and AARP did I wouldn't go back to them no matter how cheap they are. (Maybe they've changed their rules.)

what good reading, never had any issues with allstate insuring any of our three trucks all over 8800 gvwr.
we replaced our 2002 F350 Drew cab dually 4.10 gears. because of the gcvwr of 20k
I weighed our rig and me and the truck
truck had 1/4 of fuel me (229) and the empty fiver, not toys, food, tools or water
we sat at 20200 lbs.... not bad only 200 over the trucks rated gcvwr of 20K.
then we loaded up to hit the road..... 23k plus
so off I went to get a 2006 tow boss with a gcvwr of 26k
max tow load of 18.5k so now we are good and in the ratings...got to love that 4.30 rear gear
so this I ask folks that i see pulling a large fiver with a 3/4 or even a 1 ton? do you know what you weigh road ready and your trucks gcvwr? how bout your trucks REAL empty wt?
if it werent for the towboss i would have bought a volvo.

I am desperately trying to sell a house and all my possesions and get a setup that will work for me going fulltime that is dependable.

A week ago I went to a dealer that has treated me decent,but I do not think knew what I was asking for after reiterating that I needed a Truck to haul a 5ver and that it would need to really pull. He asked what I would be willing to pay and said 15K and he said no problem. I'll bet he'll try to get me to buy a 1/2-3/4 that will not pull a Travel Supreme or any other 5vr I will consider.

Other than that I bet one thing others over look is what they will nee for a CCC rating when considering a 5ver.

I am new to this and know sales people will tell you anything to get a sale and I try my best to do the research before commiting to anything these days.

CCC Cargo Carrying Capacity

its whats left over after you subtract the empty weight from the gross vehicle weight
then take that number and subtract the LP, and full fresh water, and whats in the hot water heater, whats left over is what you can add.
I never carry full 64 gallons of water.
we still have just under 2500lbs of CCC,

this number aslo does not include the weight of waste tanks with liquids in them. it is understood this is with all waste tanks empty, at least with most of the manufacters i looked at
when we took delivery of ours it had a tag stating empty wt was 11480 something
at the scale we weighed 11k even, so i assume they dont weigh em at the factory, just geuss
