Television on cabinet door

I tossed the old 80 pound analog TV that was in my 5er when I got it, cut the opening for the TV cabinet so a new (wider) flat screen would fit...then I saw someone had done a mod and hinged a door on the cabinet and mounted his TV to the door. I looked at mine with that thought in mind and yes! It will not only work, it will be much better...trouble is, I went to find the TV mod and can't find it - anybody done anything similar and have a picture?

Thanks!

Tim

TV mod

We have a Samsung 36" in our 5er and It has given good service for 3 years and 25K miles.

Good luck on your mod.

Here is a picture of the hanger for the TV that I put on the door:

I don't travel with the TV in place, I'm sure it would be fine but I take it down and bungee onto the chair . Don't like anything hanging over me. LOL

In my 2004 Monaco Knight, I shortened the sides of the cabinet to get it out of the way of my skull, then installed a solid, properly finished door hinged at the top, to which I attached the flat screen TV. When we're on the road, the TV is hinged forward and tied in position to keep it out of the way. It really opens up the cab when we're on the road and comes back down to be comfortably viewable when we're stopped. I have a set of photos that would probably be too much for this web site but I'll gladly send them to you if you contact me at roadraner.lenATgmail.com I'm assuming it's OK to do it this way and not breaking any site rule(s)?

Fubar, that is the thread I was talking about - thanks!

Ranger Rick, (just kidding!) thanks for the offer of the pics! I will get in touch soon.

Mine will be hinged on the side and open left to right. The TV cabinet is covered by the slide when it is in and the TV I bought for there is too thick to make it past the slide, so I brought it in and replaced my kitchen TV with it and will buy a thinner one for the trailer. Pics as the job gets done.

I did that on my last coach and it was great. It not only gave me a far better TV, but a new storage cabinet as well! Use a continuous piano hinge on the door for strength.

Tim, I don't know what size TV and/or the cabinet door size you have, but last year I had the opportunity to visit the KZ manufacturing facility in Shipshewana, Indiana. We were able to walk into the newest model Durango and I saw a flat panel TV mounted into the back side of a cabinet door. It was a great fit and when the cabinet door was closed it looked like the TV was framed. I was able to take a couple of photos. Now, if I can get them loaded into this reply???? I'm a newbie to this forum. I have the photos on photo bucket but don't know how to attach them to this reply.

I wish I could take credit for this job, but I only saved the pics so I could do this mod on our Excel. I went back and searched the forums. I found the post that I got the pics from.

Best practices thread

On our 3500RL with the 26 in TV in the cabinet and able to swing out to reach behind. Well the Jenson LCD TV supplied was heavy and the picture could not be seen sideways so I gave it away and bought a 40 in LED that fits perfectly in front of the cabinet between 2 doors. I bought an articulating are at Home Depot and attached it to the TV mounting support at the rear of the cabinet. Now in the cabinet behind the TV I have a chance to store CDs and all the electronic/computer assorted items. Everything stored at one location in bins.

Must have been a different thread.. I believe you mentioned putting the hinge on the driver's side.. If you do put a strong check chain on the door

I would hate to see it come open, smack you up-side the head and cause a loss of control of the RV.
