Teton Weight Question

Hello,

I’m looking at a used fifth wheel and was wondering if anybody could give me the empty weight of a 1997 Teton Royal, 40ft. Im also needing the Pin weight.

Trying to find the right size hitch, to pull the camper home.

Max weight should be on a data plate on street side near front. In Texas you have to have a photo of it to pay license fees the first time. Pin weight should be 20-25% of that number. Mine came in @23% when I weighed it. Also it was advertised as 2750 pin weight (3/4 ton no problem the salesman says) but it was 4125# when weighed at Eacapees SmartWeigh.

i have not seen the teton in person yet, but am familiar with the brand.
As per spec i found online , it is listed at 22000lbs gross weight... that would bring a hitch pin weight of 4500. I am wondering, if anybody has real weight on it empty, so i know, if i can at least get it empty home with my old F350 dually. :-)

For your hitch and truck selection, use the GVWR on the trailer. Should be on a tag on the left front corner. YOur pin weight when load will be around 20% of the GVWR.

Tetons were HEAVY units.

The dry weight is a useless number.

thanks for the advice so far.
but what i am truly looking for, is a realistic empty weight.
If i purchase the Trailer, i have to get it about 160mls home. It will be only pulled once and being empty with my old truck and eventually i will upgrade to a large pull vehicle.
I have a 22.000lbs fifth wheel hitch and trying to figure out, if i can pull it. Thats while i ask for empty weight. BTW i will not be pulling interstate and not over 55mph.

Right beside the weight sticker is another sticker that identifies payload weight. Subtract payload weight from the GVWR and that will give you the empty weight. If payload weight is 2000 then dry weight (empty weight) is 20,000.

Teton used to use F450s for delivery of new empty units.

If the hitch you have in your truck is 22k and the trailer gvwr is 22k, you should be good as far as your hitch is concerned if the trailer is really empty...

My only concern would be with your truck more than the hitch.

What year, model f350 is it ? single cab? long bed? etc...
what is the rear GAWR for your dually and the GCWR ?

I'm guessing you will be overweight both in gross weight and rear axle weight with an older F350, even pulling dry. On the other hand, you aren't the first person to be overweight, especially if you're just trying to get it home. Only you can make that decision.

From what you said earlier, you haven't seen the rig in person yet. When you do, be sure to check the condition of the tires. It the rig has been sitting for a while, those tires may look good but may be beyond their shelf life. Make sure to do a pull test to make sure the trailer brakes are working if you decide to take it with you. Good luck.

thanks guys for the info. The fact that Teton pulled with a F450, makes me feel a little better.
as for my truck : its a 1996 F350 crew cab, long bed, dually. I installed a 5-speed in lieu of the automatic, updated the engine with larger injectors and modified fuel / air and exhaust system as well as a larger turbo wheel. The Rear suspension was completely removed , leaf springs removed and i installed a Hendrickson Air Ride suspension from a 359 Peterbilt with auto ride height valves and each bag can carry 6500lbs..

As for the Trailer, i will look at it this saturday. Owner says, replaced the tires 6 month ago as well as the batteries. its the first owner, with all receipts on hand ...

A dry Teton will be over the weights on your 1996 F350. Those trucks had a GCWR of something like 20,000# and a GVWR of under 10,000#.

I tow ours with a Semi. I have, but loaded, heavy 5k pin, not far from 6. Empty my previous 2012 Chevy 3500 dually towed it well. Loaded we were over loaded. Still towed well just rode like a sled. Yours may be heavier than ours. Ours is listed as 39'. Also ours is a Grand. Royals are heavier

With your hitch/tranny/engine rear suspension mods the truck will not have any problems pulling that size trailer.... anywhere. Have fun.
