"The keys are all the same."
Is what the parts counterman at the RV dealer in Orange Park FL told me when I asked him to make a couple of copies of the keys for the storage lockers around the outside of my 2004 Keystone Cougar 5th wheel. Sure enough. He walked down an aisle, grabbed a package of 3 and brought them back. Opened the package and laid my key against one, perfect match. I was flabbergasted! What is the use of a key if everyone has the same one? There has to be more to this story.

Because it is REALLY REALLY CHEAP to make 10,000's of same key/same thumb screw locks for 1000's of RVs then a separate set for each rig.
$$$$$$
YES the storage keys are all the same........unless things have changed it is a 731 Key
Besides.........a cheap flat screw driver available at any store in the 99 cent bin will open a storage compartment faster then using the key
Just slip in above the lock and POP the door open

Locks keep honest folks honest. For the dishonest they are merely speed bumps.
Thumb-wheel combination locks are available for your basement/storage compartments. Still vulnerable to the screwdriver treatment Old Biscuit describes but if you don't use 111, 123, 000 or 999 you'll have a chance of being different from other owners.

This happen in our old MH when it was parked on the street in Las Vegas. Apparently they decided not to take my sewage hose. On the other side they broke their screw driver trying open the door to the MH but not before tearing the trim up.
These rocket scientist failed to recognize a large universal key was on the ground. Break the window, open the door.
A large universal key comes in handy when going for a walk. I have noticed that a big rock gets more respect tan a person with some drivers.

Almost all trailers use a 751 key, my 71 jayco pop up and my 07 toy hauler used the same key

Buy the locks are easy to change if you want to add a little more security. I keyed my entire fiver to one key, but not the standard one.
Cost about $100 to do all the locks. Rvkeysandmore.com.

Same Lock and Key
I bought two replacement locks for my toolbox - 751 key. Happy but don't tell nobody else

I've seen three different storage keys so far. If someone is going to steal something, any lock isn't going to stop them. Main thing is to insure the doors won't come open while traveling, keep kids for accessing things, and to keep the grab and run type thieves discouraged.
I don't keep anything expensive in any storage bins and I don't even take anything expensive on camp trips.

It's not just the RV world, I have about 15 keys that can open almost any cabin door on most boats from the past 15 - 20 years.
I have a boat cleaning business for the past 28 years.
I'll also say it's never been that hard to find a customers key that they hide.
And like others have said, most locks are just meant to tell people you really don't want them in whatever you have locked. A professional thief can open anything in no time at all.
