Are the '17 Rams out already? Or do you mean 17" tires?
If the tires on his truck are all at 80psi, why are the rear ones the only ones worn in the middle? Wouldn't the fronts suffer the same result?

Thee is a big difference in talking trailer tire inflation and the truck tire inflation. The trailer will be at/near or over the load rating of the tire, so maximum stated inflation pressure is a must for RV trailers. On the TV,it depends on the load, if you are running empty, the rears should be less, when loaded or towing they should be at/near stated inflation pressure. The front tires are usually loaded close to the same whether there is a load on the truck or while towing, so they should be at the higher pressure always.

I run my truck rear tires and all trailer tires at max psi on sidewall. No problems with center wear. I tow 13K+ miles per year.

To answer your question, it depends on if the wheel is the correct width for the tire width. If the wheel is too narrow the tire will wear in the middle at full inflation, if the wheel is too wide, then the tire will wear on the outside edges at full inflation. If the wheel is correct width, then the center wear should be even, or maybe a slightly higher center wear(but not much) I don't change my pressures, but I only run 65 psi front and 70 psi rear, I replaced standard LR D tires with LR E, I check wear patterns, tire temps, and tire pressures religiously. Now to answer your question directly, I am in agreement with you that you can run your tires at maximum inflation without wearing out the centers.

Thanks for bringing up the wheel width--I had completely forgotten about that aspect of matching tire to wheel. Reminds me of my mis-spent youth in putting the widest tire I could fit in the wheel well without regard to wheel width.

No problem, that is a been there done that moment about the wheel width, Worked at tire shops when I was in school, and people would want us to install 10" wide tires on a 6" wide wheel, and expect the tread to be flat across(isn't going to happen). From following other threads, I think that you and I do think a lot alike, we just say it a little different.

HA, thanks for pointing that out!

I should have said 07 truck not 17.

As far as the fronts the front on these RAM's with 4wd and Cummins are heavy. I ran my front tires at 80 on my 11 Dually and with turning and the heavy weight they wore well, any less pressure the edges would wear off.

My new 15 RAM dually actually calls for 80 on the front tires.
