Tire question...

Let's beat the tire horse...lol.

Does anyone have Goodyear Endurance 225/75R15 tires?
They are 10 ply, 2830#, 87 mph. They are in stock and about $32.50 (ea.) less than Maxxis M8008 10 ply. Both are trailer tires.

My 5th wheel came with Trailer King (China Bombs) 8 ply rated at 2540# don't know speed rating. I have just over 4000 mi on the stock tires from Sept to now. We are going to be on the road about 3 months this summer covering around 7500 miles. Not sure they are the best tires to do this trip crossing Rockies twice.

Roughly...Rio Grande Valley, TX-KC, MO-Seattle, WA-Napa, CA-KC, MO-Central Il-back to Rio Grande Valley, TX.

With all the other expenses I would like to use my 15 in. rims. Maybe next change I will look at 16 in.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. Hopefully somebody has done it!
Tire Rack has that tire for about $102... plus shipping.

We have several Discount Tires here in the Rio Grande Valley TX. They quoted me a set of 4 for $598 out the door.

Welcome to the forum.
Kudos for getting the "bombs" off there!
The GY Endurance are getting some press but still recent USA additions. $32 I'd be skeptical, $132 mounted maybe?
Please keep us updated as your journey progresses.
Best of luck.

IMHO: Sounds reasonable. What do your taxes/fees run in Texas ?

Discount Tire offers them for $604... installed & out the door in California.
$121/tire. $7 state 'fee'. $10 disposal 'fee'. Sales tax $39.50

Could probably save on buying on web... but you'd have to haul the tires to a dealer to have them installed.

$102 + $15 shipping (to NW California) = So that's $117 per tire delivered. (No tax on web purchase.)

So buying web... you could save maybe $50 or so... on taxes (in California).

Dunno if it's worth the hassle tho.

Well there is alternate ways to get things done.
We ordered and had a set of 5 ea. (spare too) 16" Sailuns drop shipped to a local Les Schwab near a CG we were staying in. They came out and pulled the wheels leaving the old Travel Supreme on jack stands. Took them two trips but they got er done. Great tire stores. Would also recommend Sailun trailer tires if correct size applies.
Be well

Yea I think the tire itself is $121 each here...plus tax, mount, balance, disposal, etc. etc. They are in stock down the street...not worth the time and hassle of ordering and shipping here. We are leaving in a couple of weeks.

$32 is the per tire savings over Maxxis M8008s with same specs.
GY are $121 each B4 all the fees, taxes, mounting and so forth.

Hey Gary, I was in the same boat as you two years ago.

After two full sets of ST tires and several single replacements, I ditched the 15" wheels, spent another $100 and upgraded to 16" wheels.

You and I have similar sized rigs and the speed/load rating on 15" ST tires are marginal at best.
16" wheels opens up many more options on tires.

We all have a budget we working with, but I would have saved hundreds of dollars in the long run if I would have switched to 16" wheels after the first blow out.
Not to mention the risk of damage to the camper from a blown tire.

Hope this helps, safe travels,
Julian

I just purchased those tires at a Goodyear dealer in MA for $130/tire. American made - I believe they are the only trailer tire that is American made. Nice thing about these tires is that they just started manufacturing them - so date codes shouldn't be an issue. I purchased these to replace Power King Tow Max tires on my car trailer.

Which 15" tires did you put on and what happened to them?

If you are getting new tires already I would spent the additional and get the 16". It only costs a little more and piece of mind is great. I changed mine from 16" to 17.5". Not a tire problem since.

OK folks here's the deal... I don't NEED to buy new tires. There's nothing wrong with the factory tires. I have about 4000 miles on them.

They are Trailer King made in China. I've heard a lot of talk about "China Bombs" both on line and from friends...so I was THINKING about putting on a higher quality tire. I might as well go from 8 ply to 10 ply while I'm at it.

I can get 4 Goodyear Endurance 10 ply in 225/75-15 for $121 ea. + mount, bal., etc., etc. A total of $598 out the door.

If I go to 16 in. the tires 225/80-16 will be $149 ea. ( $28 more ea.) plus a 16 in. wheel at least $100 ea. For a total of $512 more (plus diff. in tax).
So it would cost almost 2 times as much.

Hey, even if it's your dead horse, we'll beat it if we want to.

Best of luck
