To Lube or not to lube
I'm getting ready to leave Monday morning for a 5 hour trip. I have a plastic disc that snapped around the king pin. I just got a B&W companion hitch and the instructions said to use lithium grease on the polyurethane bushings. So I wondered if it might be good to put lithium on the plastic disc and also use synthetic grease around the king pin to make sure everything works smoothly.
Anyone do that?

The plastic bushings are where the head pivots side to side and for to aft.
Having grease on the plastic plate and the king pin can get very messy. The reason for the plastic plate is so that you don't need to grease there.

Its not plastic its a Teflon plate to reduce friction from hitch plate and pin box...No grease should be used on this Teflon plate...

I don't mind being corrected when I am (often enough) wrong, but Teflon is a specific example of the class molecules called polymers, commonly known as plastics. Saying that the lubrication plate is not a plastic, but Teflon, is like saying that the pin box is not metal, but steel.
BTY, greasing the lube plate isn't needed, but other than being very messy, it won't do any harm.

Have been towing 17k for 8 years with my B&W Companion/Teflon plate. Does just fine, and no greasy mess.

Grease on kingpin Jaws and Lithium on the bushings the head sits on.

I use the spray lithium on the pivot points of my B&W, and the "teflon" disc on the plate.
I use a small squirt of the lithium on the king pin where the jaws contact it. Some residue
but I don't like the metal on metal so it is what I do.

That's what I did when we had the fifth wheel. I would also put a coat of wax on the fifth wheel plate so it slid really good on the disc.

I use to use a disc and I had to oil all other points.
Through the disc away 10 years ago and now lube all points. Did find a big difference in hooking up to the fiver. There is more room to side the pin in the slot.
Last spring I went to move my friend's Fiver and we dropped it of the front blocks on to my truck box. Got mad an trough away his disc in the snow. Told him that was the main reason I through mine away years ago. No harm done though, lucky.
