Trade In Question

We stated full timing about seven months ago with a 31ft. Class C we had owned for a couple of years before we decided to full time. We knew that it would probably not work (for numerous reasons) but decided to try it to make sure we liked the full time lifestyle. We are now to the point that we are ready to move up and feel after a lot of reading, talking to others and looking that a fifth wheel is what we want. After attending the Tampa RV Show and speaking with many owners we narrowed our choice's to DRV and Lifestyle.

Next week we will fly to visit both factories, create a build sheet with the way we want it built with an MSRP. The plan is to then send the build sheet with MSRP out to dealers for both companies. I have two in mind that I really want to business with based on their reputation and am willing to pay a little more if the prices are fairly close. I will be trading my current RV as well as my Jeep (since I will also need a truck).

So here is my question. Will I need to actually drive to the dealers so they can see my RV for trade in value or will picture's work? Additionally, if it takes 4-5 months to have the new unit built will the dealer let us keep our current Rv to continue to live in and travel or will they want possession at the time of the order? Since this our home I'm not sure what we would do during the build.

I'm sure we're not the first ones that have experienced this so I thought I'd reach out to other's who have been in a similar circumstance.

We've traded two tag-a-longs and two fifthwheels and the selling Dealers never saw our trade until we arrived to transfer from the old to the new. Now I don't know if it's any different with a MH or not.

Most likely you'll not need to take your present Class C in for inspection. The dealer opens NADA and 99% of the time gives you wholesale price, period! I'm sure you'll keep your C until the new RV arrives. I'd be careful with your travels in case of an accident that will certainly spoil your deal. I definitely would see what the bottom line for your trade will be! You may be surprised at the low figure the dealer is going to offer. Just my experience last week but the experience of many here on IRV2. Best wishes on your outcome.
