Trailer fire

Park hosts parked next to us just bought a new 38ft fifth wheel and a new truck. Were to take delivery of trailer tomorrow. On their way back from taking delivery of their truck they get st call from La Mesa RV telling them that their new trailer had just burned to the ground. Refrigerator had caught on fire and destroyed it. Damn.

Better it burns before delivery than after.

And without the new owners inside, or their pets or their stuff.

This is what insurance is for. And lawyers, if necessary.

The dealers insurance. NOT MINE. The contract, even if signed is not complete without delivery. Its all theirs baby. And I would start shopping again.

Not an uncommon occurrence with La Mesa RV. The last 2 years we've stayed in the Phoenix area and they've had several RV's destroyed by fire in their service area in the Mesa facility. But, yes, it is on their dime.

I could understand a fridge fire in an older 5th wheel that had debris built up in the vent, but a new rig shouldn't be prone to fire unless it was sloppily built.

Glad to know they weren't on the road and pulling that inferno behind them. What would you actually do if that scenario ever occurred? Makes me shutter to even think about it.

I would assume I would try to unhook the rig from the truck and move the truck away. No idea if the landing gear would work or how big the fire was by the time I stopped.

Too many variables.

It's stories like this that always get me contemplating what it would take to build in an aircraft-style fire detection and suppression system on my fridge, furnace, and water heater. Then I start looking at the cost and the amount of fabrication I'd need to do then I shelve the idea until the next fire horror story.
