Trim front cap around pinbox?
I am thinking about raising my pinbox to potentially correct my nose-high situation.
In looking at the available holes, no problem, i have a couple left to move to. BUT, the front cap is interfering with where the bolts go...I am not even sure if I did trim out to make room, the bolts could pass through.
My question--have any of you trimmed the front cap on the bottom like this? I assume it is ABS plastic and not fiber glass. I also expect a dremel tool with a cut off blade will do the trick.
The passenger side looks close but the drivers side isn't even in the ballpark to fit the top of the bolt head. Any suggestions?

It is fiberglass, too glossy to be ABS. You can still cut it. But you may only be able to move one hole, the top hole may be un-usable with no space above for the washer and bolt head. Can't you lower the hitch?

Be sure to maintain the truck bed gap during this.

Wish you had a picture of the side of the pinbox. I don't think you would want to cut the fiberglass just yet. I'm thinking maybe the tongue should just go up or down a hole. I guess I need to see the side view. Is your truck lifted? You might have to have a sub frame built under the axles to get you level. Make sure when you are done, you have around 7 "s clearance on the bed rails Good luck Dave-R

If you are talking about the painted trim piece around the pin box many people remove them, no structural value and on my toy-hauler just an extra place for the wasps.
I'm not an expert but if you replace the pin box with a better riding type, air or cushioned ride, the cover might not fit anyway.

I did on mine when I had to raise my MORyde pin box up. I used a diamond cutting wheel on my 4" grinder. Very easy. Just take your time. You can clean it up with a regular girding wheel. My regular grinding wheel was used and rounded over on the edge so that made cleaning up in the corner easier.
I had to trim about 1" out of the front edge where the pin box meets the underside of the cap.

I did mine by inserting the bolts from inside out and used a shorter bolt that ended up flush with the nut.....no cutting at all

You may well have inadvertently increased the pin weight and side-to-side bias, along with tire pressures....

Worse yet you only achieve full rating on the pin box when towing backwards, normal towing is now reduced by X percent and X is an unknown value.🆘

The OP said a couple of holes were available. Would raising the pin box just one hole do the job without trimming the cap?

Update: truck is stock, not lifted. I am close to the 6" bed rail clearance now.
Dave-R you may be right, I just might have a set of holes that will accommodate the move up without interfering with the front cap. Side pic attached.
Note: rear holes have plenty of clearance.
Is that tongue really 100ish lbs?
