We have bought a 3 year old Praire Schooner, with triple slide outs. The seller said they only used the 5th wheel approx. 5 months when the owner became ill. We bought it on consignment from a dealer. Our problem is the white plastic coating under the bedroom slide out has ripped and there seems to be plywood underneath. How do we go about getting new plastic or should we buy a different type of coating for this area. We are afraid that the board underneath is going to warp. This is a trailer my husband is going to live in for the next 11 months so we need to take care of this soon. Thanks

Locate a dealership here that sells your brand of RV and ask the parts department this question. You will have to follow the links on the manufacturer's website to locate a dealer near you. Yes you should replace the plastic ASAP. In addition to your observation about the plywood warping, it may also tear or rip the carpeting. Welcome to irv2.com! This is the place to listen, ask questions, and learn about all things RV connected. I have learned ever so much since joining irv2.com.

so the slide rests on a UHMW, (ultra high molecular weight) piece of material that is attached to the floor of the RV... the slide moves across this special plastic material... its my best guess that a recessed screw that holds the UHMW to the floor has broken or backed out... thus ripping the material under the slide... and now allows water to enter the plywood and will damage the plywood...

No undercoating will work, as when the slide runs across the sill (UHMW) it will just scrape the undercoating off... the correct repair is to pull the slide OUT of the RV and replace the fabric under the slide... in my case that fabric is black and its the same material used on road construction where a layer of fabric is used between layers of asphalt... funny how you sometimes notice the same stuff used in other applications...

So how do I know this... I helped a friend who had this problem... and the loose screw was what caused the damage..
