The very first fifth wheel I can recall was, and I'm not joking, attached to the roof of a Pontiac! It was around 1970 or so, and there was a hitch plate that was attached to the roof of the car and the fiver was hooked to it.

Well, believe it or not some people think that maybe my elevator doesn't go to the top floor, and they don't believe that this set-up ever existed.

I'd like to get my hands on a picture of this rig... can anyone help?

I do not have a picture of one but I remeber seeing one in the early 70's.

It have seen photos that back in the mid/late 30's there was a coupe that had a hitch mounted in the trunk (rumble seat) this was connected to a streamlined 5W type RV. I can't remember where I saw the pictures though.

It was probably custom built and not a mass produced product for the consumer
