Washing RV roof
What should I use to wash the roof with? Our neighbor here in the RV park says Murphy Oil soap. We've got RV wash but now I just don't know.

Murphy Oil will clean, but doesn't add protection. Rubber roof and TPO roof is like your skin, will benefit from a UV blocker and "moisturizer. UV blockers and actual Rubber treatment that is built in to most of the rubber roof cleaners available today are worth the upfront cost for the life of the roof. Some say Spic n' Span or Murphy's Oil, but IMHO, go with the rubber roof cleaner/treatment in one such as Bio Kleen or Best (both available at the RV dealer or Amazon). Works to limit UV damage and helps keeps the rubber pliable. Taking care of your roof is a solid investment over time. Maintenance is key for long life and maintaining property value.

Our roof manufacturer recommends Dawn dishwashing liquid and that is what we use. Then we put several coatings of Aerospace 303 Protectant on it.

I use the good old BORAX in a ratio of 1cup along with 1cup of Calgon water softener in a gallon of water. Use of a scrub brush helps. Then any quality roof protection can be applied after if desired.

For 10 yrs I ave used a rectangular bucket, soft bristle brush, warm water with Dawn Dish soap and Spic-N-Span solution.
Then a good rinse. That is it ---roof is clean and in surprisingly good same for being 10 yrs old

My MH roof is TPO. I wash it about 3 times a year with a mixture of hot water, Dawn and bleach. It's over 15 years old, never been garaged and the roof looks about 95% of new. I don't use any protectorant.

I use regular automotive soap and a Boars hair brush, in my case Duragloss 901. Duragloss states there is nothing left behind with their soap. When dry I use 303 and a sponge mop.

Just don't forget to rewax your 5er as Dawn, Murphy's or Spic n Span or any other brand are all detergents and may (will?) streak the sides where wax has been washed away. You can guess how I learned that. Now, it's just a yearly (2-3 times) wash with a good car wash soap without wax, using a soft bristle brush. It's a roof and doesn't need to sparkle like the sides - just be decently clean and free of whatever might deteriorate the EPDM. Not convinced that .303 really helps on EPDM roofs as that stuff is self sacrificial though do use it for other items such as slide seals

Dawn will most likely strip any protectant on the side of trailer as it runs down. I use normal automobile soap.
