My rule of thumb is when adding weight to the rear add 150% to the axle and 50% off the pin.

OK, Rusty's explanation all makes sense to me, but I just did the math and it's not matching my results from a CAT scale. D2 (distance from centerline of receiver carrier to centerline of rear axle is 130", or 10.8'. D1 (distance from centerline of rear axle to centerline of front axle is 190", or 15.8'. W2 (weight of scooter, scooter rack, and helmets stored under scooter seat) is 290 lbs. So, if I did the math correctly I should have seen a front axle reduction of 197 lbs, and a rear axle load increase of 487 lbs, right?

I've weighed three times on the same CAT scale, twice without the scooter and once with. Although there were some variations in other loading the closest I come to matching the formula is a front axle load reduction of 160 lbs (fairly close to the formula), and a rear axle increase of 340 lbs. (not really in the same ballpark as the formula).

Any thoughts or ideas? Truthfully, I'm questioning the accuracy/consistency of the CAT scale I've been to, as the figures just don't seem reflective of the load changes I've made.

Going out on a limb here, I would guess the fulcrum point isn't as easy to determine on a motor home?

the only axles that will not load equaly is Moreride units. Most trailer axles have equalizers so the axle loading is centered at the equalizer. So the measurement would be between 130 and 190 or 160in. And the axles will split the weight.

Weight dis interesting. I added a 150lb washer/dryer to front closet on 5er. Near center over A frame. So, if I put a 150lb scooter on a rear receiver, should balance out ok. Right?

Only concern is the 5er rear can bounce quite a bit, a lot actually, on the road. Had to re-adjust bumper mount spare tire as was kissing the road sometimes. (before adj, tire about 2 inches below bumper)

Seems added weight on rear might create problems and stress frame ? Bumper is only spot wielded to frame. Would scooter mounted to front of truck be better ? Are there any good brackets for front of truck that can be easily remove when not in use?

06 GMC 2500HD - Thanks for reference to Bodiak. Looked at site and they have a receiver for the truck but then only a flat screened platform. Think I need something with a rail to tip and roll scooter up on. Little heavy to lift to a platform. Did not find anything on Bodiak site of that type. Maybe have to have fabricated ?
