When I hear cooktop I think of those glass stoves (or drop/slide in units) with the heating element under the glass. If that is what you are talking about you can find many items in your local grocery store OR you can go to an appliance store and pick up a cleaner made specifically for cooktop units.

However, if you are talking about the 3 or 4 burner stoves many of us use in our RV's then most cleaning supplies will work. Personally I use Windex for light cleaning and Mr. Clean for more dirty jobs.

It's my job, when parked for longer than a few days to wash dishes. When I finish the dishes I wash the stove grates, every time. This keeps them from getting grungy and hard to clean; then a very light spray with cooking spray makes washing very easy next time.
An old colonel once told me " if you have a difficult job, give it to the laziest man you have. He will figure out a way to make it easy".
